Lahore: Administrative Judge of the Special Anti-Terrorism Court Arshad Hussain Bhatta has pronounced the verdict in the Gujjarpura Ring Road gang rape case in jail yesterday, under which the convicts have been sentenced to death and imprisonment. Later, Abid and Shafqat hugged and cried and apologized to the judge.
According to the details, the court sentenced Shafqat and Abid Malhi to death under Section 376 for rape, 14 years imprisonment, fine of Rs 50,000 under section for breaking glass and confiscation of all property. The section has been heard. There were seven provisions in the case against the culprits under which the verdict was pronounced.
It was reported that after the verdict was announced, both the convicts were shifted to the death barracks. However, after the sentencing, the two convicts hugged each other and cried and apologized to the judge saying that they were ashamed and given a chance. They will never commit such a crime again in their lives. The court ordered the two to be shifted to separate rooms.
The statements of 37 witnesses in the case were recorded while the victim also recorded her statement. It may be recalled that this tragic incident took place on the night between September 9 and 10 last year when the perpetrators gang-raped a woman on Gujjarpura Ring Road. Police tested blood samples found in the broken glass of the car that matched Abid and Shafqat. Police arrested Shafqat five days after the incident and Abid Malhi a month and four days later.
